##chat @ irc.libera.chat
Welcome to ##chat, a libera social channel. This page has been set up to give an outline of the channel guidelines. If you are
looking for the FAQ, you may be able to find your answer here.
Please see the libera network policy at https://libera.chat/policies. The following ##chat guidelines apply in addition to these policies.
The ##chat moderator team does everything it does with the best interests of the community at heart. We think that making rules sucks,
but unfortunately with a community of this size it’s necessary to have some ground rules firmly in place for us to keep doing what
we’re doing. We want these rules to be 100% transparent and consistently enforced/followed. We realize that no set of rules is
sufficient to handle all possible scenarios. If we did not cover a specific circumstance, please respect our decisions. However, you
are encouraged to bring any and all concerns up in ##chat-ops; we will look at each individual case and, if necessary, clarify the
issue and/or change our channel guidelines accordingly.
Channel operators can be determined with: /msg ChanServ FLAGS ##chat
General Rules
The ##chat channel should be a place where everybody can feel comfortable.
01 Be civil and respect other people and their opinions, whether you agree or not.
02 Please do not be rude, judgmental or belittling.
03 Do not accuse, provoke or intentionally offend others, request kicks or bans in public or engage in personal attacks.
04 Do not discuss or taunt users who have been removed, kicked, banned, quieted or devoiced.
05 Do not substitute single letters such as 'u' and 'r' for whole words such as 'you' and 'are' as this is considered annoying and,
if you are asked to stop, you are to stop. Initialisms, acronyms, and multi-word abbreviations are generally fine (BRB, AFK, etc).
Examples (list not comprehensive): ur (your/you are), 2ce (twice), 2 (to, too), b (be)
06 If you are asked to not use l33t sp34k, please stop. This is not actively enforced, so please don't abuse this.
07 Do not spam. What is and is not spam is left to the discretion of the operators.
08 No ranting. ##chat is not your audience for your stream-of-thoughts, your blog, or your soapbox. If you are asked to drop a
topic or take it somewhere else, please do so.
09 Try to keep the channel, your behavior, and topics discussed family-friendly (see Topics #5/#6 below). This includes keeping
swearing to a minimum. If you are told a topic is inappropriate, it is inappropriate. If you are unsure if a topic is
appropriate, please ask! We appreciate people asking first.
10 No cross-channel drama. This includes complaining about getting banned, and the decisions of any other channel operator or
network admin.
11 Please speak English while in ##chat.
Technical Rules
01 Don’t flood the channel or abuse the channel for rants.
02 Bots (of any sort) and scripts (that do or say anything) are not permitted without explicit operator approval.
If you think a bot, script, or function might assist the channel, ASK FIRST.
03 We reserve the right to remove annoying people.
04 Do not share non-HTTP/S (or FTP with disclaimer) links in ##chat.
This includes Onion, I2p, Gemini, Gopher, and similar protocols.
If a link cannot be immediately viewed by all channel operators it will be considered potentially dangerous and
the situation will be dealt with accordingly.
05 Do not share piracy links (dht:, .torrent, magnet:, etc) or speak about piracy (or things which are implying piracy)
in a positive or otherwise endorsing fashion.
Topics
We hope that ##chat is an interesting place, however some topics are not suitable:
01 Racism and intolerant speech of any kind is never permitted.
02 Any topic that is not allowed on libera, is still not allowed in ##chat.
03 Some topics are controversial and often end in negativity. Take care on subjects like war, religion, sexuality, potentially
illegal activities and the like. These topics are not banned, but should be approached responsibly; stating your position is
ok, but trolling, baiting, hostility or repetition are not.
04 If you are asked to stop, do so politely.
05 A lot of people use libera as part of their job, therefore please keep the channel “safe for work”. Consider this in both your
in-channel discussions and when selecting your quit/part messages.
06 Please do not link to anything which could cause offense or be not safe-for-work. Keep foul, vulgar or profane language (or
acronyms or substitutes which imply foul, vulgar or profane language) to a minimum.
07 No politics. This includes complaining about the ##politics channel (or any other channel which discusses politics).
Operator Decisions
01 Respect decisions. Channel ops work hard to be fair and balanced, but may not always resolve issues exactly the way you would.
02 Acting in bad faith (for example, arguing publicly over the legitimacy of anything an operator does, or attempting to
circumvent the rules or spirit of the channel, such as "creatively" swearing) is not tolerated.
03 In the event you are banned or have issues with a decision in ##chat made by operators, please do not ask about it or complain
about it in any channel besides ##chat-ops -- you are welcome to bring it up there.
Bot commands
01 +commands to reference the command list, https://pastebin.com/raw/sRaG51VD
02 Bot access can be revoked at any time for any reason.
03 Do not abuse the bot or any other channel bot/service, including to spam, harass users, bypass ignores, or anything similar.
